| Yes-No questions:
You can turn a simple statement into a question by adding mı, mi, mu, or mü to the end of the statement.
Examples: Bu bir kitap. This is a book. Bu bir kitap mı? Is this a book? Evet, bu bir kitap. Yes, this is a book. Hayır, bu bir kitap değil. Bu bir defter. No, this is not a book. This is a notebook.
Onun adı Ahmet. His name is Ahmet. Onun adı Ahmet mi? Is his name Ahmet? Evet, onun adı Ahmet. Yes, his name is Ahmet. Hayır, onun adı Ahmet değil. Onun adı Mehmet. No, his name is not Ahmet. His name is Mehmet.
Bu bir okul. This is a school. Bu bir okul mu? Is this a school? Evet, bu bir okul. Yes, this is a school. Hayır, bu bir okul değil. No, this is not a school.
Bu bir gözlük. This is a glasses. Bu bir gözlük mü? Is this a glasses. Evet, bu bir gözlük. Yes, this is a glasses. Hayır, bu bu bir gözlük değil. No, this is not a glasses.
You can see that: mı comes after ı,a mi comes after e,i mu comes after o,u mü comes after ö,ü

| Question tags
Question tags are the questions of the form:
You are home, aren't you? He did his homework, didn't he? Mehmet will come today, won't he?
Constructing question phrases in Turkish is very simple and straightforward. You just add "değil mi" at the end regardless of the sentence. The translations for the question tags above are then:
Evdesin, değil mi? Ödevini yaptı, değil mi? Mehmet bugün gelecek, değil mi? | |
